What I’m trying to do
I type pretty fast and I use obsidian to write, and often when I press enter for a new paragraph it creates a link to one of my notes. Can I change that behaviour to use a key other than enter? Like maybe tab or anything else? All I want the enter key to do is just jump to a new line, that’s it. Sometimes my brain registers to late when it comes up with a link and my fingers is already typing the new line and then I have to go back and remove the link and it’s a whole thing.
Things I have tried
I don’t know what to try, I’m pretty new to Obsidian and I love it and I’m learning as I go on, but I don’t know where to look for this.
Typing Enter shouldn’t create any links.
Typically you’d type [[ to get the link suggestion popup.
Did you install any community plugins that auto-link words to notes or anything like that?
Oh… I think you’re right! Thank you for redirecting me! I really am learning as I go along so it might be something I installed while watching a video. This is good! If I can figure out which one I can change it, thank you!
Got it!
Yeah, the general advice is to use vanilla Obsidian (no community plugins) until you get the hang of it. When you hit a wall with something you want to do but can’t, go looking for a plugin.
If you install x number of community plugins from the start, it’s hard to work out the default behavior and/or what’s added by a plugin.
That makes sense, my impatience was once again my downfall. It was of course the very last plugin I tried. I’ve been googling the wrong stuff! Thank you for answering my silly question, in retrospect I should’ve realised, so I appreciate that you took the time. Who knows how long I would’ve been on the wrong goose chase!
