Problem and Impact
When typing in parts of Canvas, “misspelled words” appear with red underlining even though Spellcheck is disabled in Obsidian Options->Editor, with Spellcheck options saying “Dictionary is empty.”
This is especially aggravating given that I use shorthand and abbreviations in Canvas because it’s a scratchpad.
Steps to reproduce
- Open a Canvas
- Right-click a card and choose Convert to file…
- Note that Untitled (the default text) appears with a red underline.
- Note that right-clicking Untitled opens the spelll check context menu.

Suggested cause
Could parts of the Obsidian environment (particular dialogs) be managed by higher-level settings for spell check? Electron? Systemwide?
Proposed solution
Diagnose and resolve the problem so that spell check can be disabled across Obsidian.
If something in the O/S or Obsidian architecture might be triggering spell check, identify that and note where those settings can be addressed.
