Can't create new notes

What I’m trying to do

I’m hitting CMD+N to create a new note. I see the new note show up in my side bar in my folders, and then it disappears and the tab closes. It seems there is some automation in the background that is deleting the note. The same thing happens if I try File → New Note

Things I have tried

I turned off community plug ins and restarted Obsidian. I created a new note again and observed the same behavior (it creates the note then deletes it)

Where is your vault location on disk? e.g. /Users/USERACCOUNT/ObsidianVaults/{VAULT-NAME}. Also, is this Windows? macOS?

As you are using the official Obsidian Sync service, your vault can’t be in another sync service location (OneDrive, GoogleDrive, etc.) or a location watched by a sync service (commonly Desktop and Documents depending on the service settings).

Thanks. It is Mac and sits on my desktop and syncs using Obsidian Sync. Oddly, if I create a placeholder note [[placeholder]] and then click on it, it creates the new note without a problem.
