Cannot Log Into iOS App

Steps to reproduce

Download iOS Application.
Select “Use my existing vault”.
Select “Obsidian Sync”.
Attempt to log in.

Did you read and follow the Troubleshooting Guide? Yes

Expected result

I am asked for my MFA code and am successfully authenticated.

Actual result

The app loads for an extended period of time and gives the error message:
“Login failed, please double check your email and password.”

Environment

iOS Version 26.6
App version 1.13.7

Additional information

I use a password manager. I have tried manually copy/pasting my credentials, manually entering my email, resetting my password, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and turning MFA off. I am able to successfully log into the app on my Mac and from the web on my phone (the same device the app auth fails on). The App Store does not give me the option to update. I will attempt to update my iOS next, and then try to manually enter both my email and password.

I’m experiencing the same issue on an iPhone 16 Plus running iOS 26.6 with Obsidian 1.13.7.

After tapping Sign in, the app shows a loading spinner for a long time and then displays: “Login failed, please double check your email and password.”

I can log in successfully in Safari on the same phone and on my Mac. I have also tried both Wi-Fi and cellular data, and I am not using a VPN.

It seems to be the same issue described here.

Where in the world are you?

Are you sure you are entering the password exactly. Sometimes password managers do not copy exactly.

What I’m trying to do

I’m trying to log into Obsidian Sync on iOS (app version 1.13.7). I have an active Sync subscription and can log in fine on desktop with the same credentials. On mobile, submitting the login form spins indefinitely, then eventually returns either “incorrect password” or a generic error, even though I’m using the exact same email and password that work on desktop.

Things I have tried

I’ve confirmed the password is correct by logging in successfully on desktop right before attempting mobile. I’ve reset the password from the account settings page and tried logging in again on iOS with the new password, with the same result. I’ve force-quit and reinstalled the app. I’ve disabled autocapitalization and typed the email and password manually instead of using autofill or a password manager, to rule out a trailing space or capitalization issue. None of this has resolved it.

What I’m trying to do

  • I have a vault created on my MacMini. The vault does not reside in an iCloud directory. Subscribed to the Obsidian Sync service. The sync of vault to Obsidian sync seems to work fine. Note: I chose to use end-to-end encryption.
  • I want to access the vault on my iPhone. I download the Obsidian mobile app from Apple app store. I tell it that I want to connect to a remote vault. I try to connect to Obsidian sync. I am prompted for email and password.
  • I enter the email and password for the account…and it always fails to connect with the message that “Login failed. Please double-check your email and password.”

Note: These are the exact same email/password that I am using to login to my Obsidian account on desktop. They are automatically provided via my password manager, BitWarden.

I searched forums for problems logging into obsidian using iPhone. Many seem related to using lockdown mode on iPhone. I am NOT using lockdown mode.

I also tried setting up my sync’d vault both ways: letting Obsidian manage the keys or using end-to-end encryption. Didn’t matter. In both cases, I am still unable to login via iPhone.

You said you tried both types of encryption management. Those relate to the remote vault, not to your Obsidian account log-in. They’re two different credentials. If both are saved in your password manager, might you be submitting the wrong one?

Ignore if you’re already doing this; just making sure:

First, log in with your Obsidian account (email address and password). Then, after selecting a remote vault to sync, use your vault’s E2E encryption password.

I am dealing with the exact same issue. I purchased obsidian synch earlier today so I could have my vault on my phone but no matter what I do I cannot log into the app.

I am having the exact same issue as well. I just purchased obsidian sync and have successfully synced my MacBook with an android device, but I cannot get the app on iPhone to log into my account so that I can sync to iPhone. I have tried all of the recommended fixes mentioned above and nothing works.

Here are the strategies I tried, but I am still not able to login in the app on iPhone:

  • vault is stored locally on iPhone (not on iCloud)
  • lockdown is off
  • tried logging in through settings in my local vault in iphone
  • my log in credentials are correct; tested to make sure
  • closed and reopened the app and restarted
  • erased the app entirely and started over
  • checked network and security restrictions and turned those off

Any other ideas would be so much appreciated!

Where are you located?

Same issue here. Was able to manually enter and log in Safari (same phone) and laptop ok.

Caribbean. My vault set to North America

We can reproduce the problem. We are looking into it.

I’m in the southeastern United States. And I’m fairly confident it’s being entered exactly. The same value from my clipboard pasted into the browser worked. It’s only an issue with the native app.

I am in Southern California

We made some adjustments, are you able to login now?

I was!!

Whatever you changed it now works for me. Thanks :folded_hands:

Yes! I can login now! Thank you.
