Cannot interact with the Right Sidebar

Hi all, so I don’t know how long this has been happening for, but I cannot click on any icon in the right sidebar.

Steps to reproduce

Opening any vault including the Sandbox Vault. Toggle the sidebar via Command Palette. I have opened my vault in restricted mode and with all my plugins. Nothing changes.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Yep

Expected result

I should be able to switch tabs, right click on icons, and toggle the sidebar via the button.

Actual result

I can interact with the currently loaded tab, but cannot switch tab nor collapse or expand via the button. Toggling via Command Palette works though. Right-clicking also doesn’t work, even on the active tab.

Something ariehen often suggests is to try making a new user account, to try to see if it’s something in your OS settings.

That could be a good first step before attempting to upgrade.

Does kernel version map 1:1 with MacOS version? What version of MacOS are you on?

I’m using Big Sur 11.7.10

This is the latest supported version for my mid 2014 retina mac pro. I’m not sure how to tell if the kernel matches.

All I meant was that I couldn’t tell what version of MacOS you were on. Because the debug info only shows the kernel version.

Obsidian 1.8.9 is on Electron 34.3.0. On the Electron page, I see “macOS (Big Sur and up)” so that should be fine in theory. (Even up to 35.0.0)

The last time MacOS version was mentioned in the changelogs was Obsidian 1.5.8:

The installer has been updated to Electron v28.2.3. For macOS, Catalina 10.15 or higher is now required to run.

If you’re stuck and need a workaround, you could try the 2nd user account just as a test. And then if you want to try downgrading to a previous version of Obsidian:

If you downgrade, you might have to: (backup first to be safe)

  • Turn off auto updates, then close Obsidian.
  • go to your Obsidian apps settings (not your vault settings) and find and move or delete the .asar file. ~/Library/Application Support/obsidian
  • Download the previous version Tags · obsidianmd/obsidian-releases · GitHub
