Hi folks, I’m quite new to Obsidian, read the user guide and a few other documents, but I’m not quite sure I can do what I need using Obsidian, so I’m using a little of your time to make sure it can do the tasks below before investing a lot of time in it.
What I’m trying to do
I need a system to use mostly during meetings. It should transcribe the audio captured by a notebook and that transcription should be placed in a canvas so that I can take notes over it simultaneously.
It should be shared with other team members that can see and edit at the same time and it should be editable so that parts of the transcript and annotations can be moved or edited and other components can be added.
It seems that Obsidian + some plugins can do the job, but I’m not quite sure…
So, am I at the right place? Can Obsidian do this? Which plugins and documentation do you suggest?
Microsoft Word is designed to accompish this (see link). However you need to process the recording afterdards: real time transcription isn’t supported. Some kind of written input is enabled during transcription but you don’t see any text appearing from transcription.
Obsidian does not yet support collaborative live editing on the same file. You will not see the other user’s cursor, and their edits will only appear once the changes are synced.
Browse community plugins with the keyword “transcribe”; I can’t suggest one in specific because I don’t use transcripts for meetings.
and that transcription should be placed in a canvas
You need to drag notes manually into your canvas
so that I can take notes over it simultaneously.
Hmm difficult to build this “chain”
It should be shared with other team members that can see and edit at the same time
Again, please check community plugins, but for collaboration tools, right now collaboration is not yet implemented as core feature in Obsidian, but it’s currently in the making, please check the roadmap for “Multiplayer”. No guarantee how this feature will work, finally.
Your request is called a “workflow”, where you ask a developer to code a very specific script able to talk to multiple interfaces and to produce a custom output.
You may have some success with plugins, or to chat with plugin authors interested to fill the very same gap that you’ve.
Thanks @blue_emperor and @Jopp !
It seems that there’s no straight tool to do what I need, but at least I did not spend a month on trial and error. Thank you for your time!
