Bullet list markers are not perfectly round

The problem

Today I happened to notice that the list item markers in my notes are not quite symmetrical. Some of them are normal, i.e. round, and some of them seem to be kinda stretched along the vertical (as in the attached image) or horizontal axe.

In Canvas they are stretched vertically, while in normal notes they are stretched horizontally.

Things I have tried

I tried disabling all installed plugins and snippets, but the problem remains. I searched the internet for screenshots of lists made by Obsidian users and noticed that some of them have what I’m describing, while in other screenshots the markers are perfectly round.

This raised a few questions for me:

  1. Why does it happen? Is this some kind of rendering imperfection? Does this happen to everyone?
  2. Is there any way to make every single marker absolutely round?

Thanks in advance!

Hi. I can reproduce your problem so you might want to post in Bug reports

My dots are nearly identical but you can observe small variations similar to your findings.

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to test this issue. I’ll write a bug report about it.

Hi!

I created a bug report but it seems that there should be certain conditions under which this bug can be reproduced, because WhiteNoise couldn’t reproduce it. I can easily reproduce it in the Sandbox so may be it depends on some OS settings or hardware. Do u have any idea? By the way, can’t it depend on monitor? I mean I use ultrawide may be this is the case…

I believe WhiteNoise gets similar results to my screenhot. The screenshot is scaled up.

It could potentially be related to your display’s sub-pixel or anti-aliasing rendering.

I google it and tried this:

  1. Disable ClearType by opening “Control Panel->Fonts->Adjust ClearType text” and unchecking “Turn on ClearType”.
  2. Disable font smoothing by unchecking “Smooth edges of screen fonts” in “Control Panel->System->Advanced system settings → Performance Settings->Visual Effects.

but nothing changed. Do you mean it can be something on my display hardware level that can’t be changed via settings?
