Problem
One incredibly common thing I do is research on my phone and group up things in groups of tabs. Sadly, the workflow for retaining and sharing these groups of links into Obsidian is awful.
Let me reiterate, this problem is only really a big issue on mobile. I use browser extensions to copy tabs in markdown format as I’m working if I’m on desktop.
Solution
First you would need to test the workflows:
- Go into Chrome or Brave and test out grouping up tabs. Select > Share the selected tab group.
- It seems to share a list (newline delimited) to a page in the app, but there’s almost no control
- Firefox has mobile add-ons, but none of the tab grouping ones that could indirectly sync with Obsidian are on the mobile version for the add-ons
The solution will go on if two ways I’m assuming:
- You have to go through that browser’s sharing workflow and hopefully have a way for obsidian to know you’re sharing from a browser which then does something else to help you capture that list (not a fast workflow). It would work in this case for Brave or Chrome it seems.
- Design a plugin to share these with outside of obsidian to sync browser tabs or extend an existing one and sync with some custom obsidian plugin
Current solutions I know of:
- I’ve tried Memex but it has yet to address this problem for me
