Bitdefender Antivirus Disinfected and Quarantined Obsidian

We strongly recommend you to search the forum with possible keywords before submitting a new bug report. Please also try your repro steps with third-party plugins and custom CSS disabled and see if it’s still reproducible. If it’s an issue with third-party plugins or themes, try contacting the author for help. Once you’ve done the above, delete this line.

Steps to reproduce

Every time I updated plugins, Bitdefender antivirus disinfected and quarantined Obsidian and my vault.

Expected result

Bitdefender doesn’t consider the update as a threat

Actual result

The updated files were quarantined

Environment

  • Operating system: Windows 10
  • Obsidian version: 0.12.1

Additional information

Is this related to all plugins or to one in particular?

This is most likely a false positive and I can see why Bitfender flags this a possible malware (you are essentially downloading scripts from a website).

Hi @WhiteNoise,

It has happened to all plugin updates since two days ago.

I think bitdefender is just concerned with downloading scripts from the the internet. It’s not a wrong concern. I am not sure if they have a way to report false positives or whitelist obsidian.

I had whitelisted Obsidian and my vault, but it kept happening.

I just sent the false positive report to Bitdefender.

False! The latest version available for download by the general public (not insiders), according to VirusTotal, is virus-free. https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/ffd93faa1d0a7d5b6a7e7844a3c96f69fde829393bcefa924bc90da47fae3aaf/details

Thanks, @angellom!
