Bases Views sometimes not refreshing in sidepanel. Moving it to another panel SOMETIMES fixes it

I love Obsidian. Thanks for creating this!

I have 5 Views (same or different Base doesn’t matter) spread across the left and right sidepanel.
They all should refresh (show backlinks and links via formula) to the active note.

I’ve been struggling with it for 2 days now. Half of the views would not refresh, often with the exact same formula.

I just recreated them all from scratch in a new workspace and now they work (even though it’s the EXACT same formulas etc). Indicates maybe the bug might be in the base/views file (?)

I still have a few other workspaces that sometimes don’t refresh. Yet with so many links, it’s not easy to pinpoint.

Overall I feel that I cannot fully rely on it at the moment as I may miss out on important subtasks or project info because they simply don’t show up sometimes in the view.

Moving those views to another location in the sidebar and then clicking a note and back to the initial note (sort of like hiding and unhiding) can make them show data.

All of my Views were pinned but I believe I’ve also seen it on unpinned Views.

Either there is a bug with the UI in the sidebars, or there’s an error generated in the table/view data, since the new fully recreated base and views worked.

It’s not lag because I have barely a hundred notes currently but plan to use it for all my projects and recommend Obsidian to clients as well, so getting this fixed will be crucial.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, hello.

Please follow and include the bug report template when posting bug reports. Thanks.

Thanks @ariehen. I will. I’m not sure how to reproduce it since it happens sometimes. I’m hoping others experiencing something similar can help me file the bug report the right way.

I experienced it also with all plugins/snippets disabled.

I’ll try and refile with the proper template if I can find more ways to reproduce it.

Thanks for helping make Obsidian better.
Chris

The template is mostly this. Remove the comments and fill in your info; thanks!

Steps to reproduce

  • Create views within the same or within a few different BASES.
  • In there, create a view based on a formula inside THIS VIEW, example: file.hasLink(this.file)
  • Put the views in the sidebars (left and right). I typically had 4 or 5.
  • Example situation + Links, x Links, Atlas Links, Calendar Links, Effort Links.
  • Open up a note with related content.
  • Some views would show nothing. Sometimes even with the same formula.
  • When the views were moved outside of the sidebar and elsewhere and then moved back they often would update and show the correct information.
  • Results varied. Sometimes they would show, sometimes not.
  • Creating a new base and rebuilding each view from scratch seemed to fix it.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

  • Yes. I removed all plugins and snippets and it still happened.

Expected result

  • To see the sidebar views update relevant information to the active note.

Actual result

  • Some views in the sidebar updated, others did not.

Environment

  • Below the configuration after re-enabling all plugins.

Additional information

  • Creating a new base and recreating all from scratch (view, exact same formulas) worked.
  • Moving views from sidebars and then back sometimes worked.
  • I may have a backup of an installation where this happened.

There are some cases (the performance heavy ones) where Bases is not expected to auto-refresh and you have to manually do it.

If possible crate a minimum reproducing vault and attach it here or dm a link to me
