Bases view: todos as Gantt

Use case or problem

In future i’d would like to manage my tasks in Obsidian, but not with a grocery-list-approach and some checkmark buttons.
“Grocery lists” are in my eyes, quick scribbles on paper, I don’t need a PC for such lists.

Alternatives:

  • Kanban view is one way to deal more effectively with tasks, but is only a better “grocery list”
  • Mermaid diagrams instead, could be the solution, but unfortunately data in mermaid is unrelated to to-dos, mermaid diagrams are “only” a visual representation of static data.

Proposed solution

Since tasks are complex, we need a new way to view tasks in relationship to reach other: and here’s where Gantt diagrams come in.

Gantt diagrams show you relationships between tasks, projects, durations so you can better organize each task and project relative to your time, in hours, days, weeks, relative to other tasks and projects. Sounds for me like something familiar to Obsidian: relationships, connections.

Current workaround (optional)

There are some community plugins to generate Gantt diagrams, but these plugins are older and seem broken after trying them out.

There is currently no support for tasks in Bases, let alone a Gantt chart about them. It’s better you continue here:
