Use case or problem
I heavily use “summary”-properties in my vault to provide short summaries of something (e.g. my days, weeks, books I have read etc.) - those can get a little longer which currently doesn’t work well with Bases (see Screenshot), since I either:
- have to make the column of that property very wide - which causes the Base to scroll horizontally quickly and is not a great UX especially when the base is embedded into another note
- or I don’t see the full content of the property-field
Example of how the summary-field cuts off - I can then only see the entire text-value by clicking into the field and using the arrow-keys to scroll to the right - not the best UX
Proposed solution
If the user clicks on a property-field in a base the field expands into a “popup” that shows the full content and allows the user to make edits.
Similarly to what happens when I click on an empty property field in a base and get suggestions for what to put in there:
But ofc this expanded field should then only show the current content and allow the user to edit it in there!
Related feature requests (optional)
This is a bit related to Bases: Word wrap but I would personally like to see both.
Allow us to turn on Text Wrap when that makes sense and in other cases improve the usability of long property-fields by expanding the field when clicked on as suggested here
