Bases: Compact cards

Use case or problem

In the new Kanban bases view, the cards are very spacious, using up a lot of the valuable vertical space. This is very inconvenient, and makes the view hard to use.

Proposed solution

An option for a “compact” view for cards, which would do several things:

  • Properties are displayed similarly to how they are in note frontmatter, where the property key and value are displayed on the same line.
  • Properties with no value are omitted, to avoid wasting space displaying nothing. Though, this may be something users want, so there could be value in making this a separate option.

This doesn’t have to be unique to the Kanban bases view, and can be extended to other bases views that make use of cards.

Current workaround (optional)

The only “workarounds” are:

  • Only displaying one or two properties at most, which obviously isn’t ideal for bases where more properties than that are needed to be displayed.
  • Creating a custom formula to implement a custom display of all of the desired properties, which shouldn’t be expected of users.

Another Proposed Solution

You should be able to color individual cards based on properties.

I can imagine have a property called “Priority” for a task based Kanban base. If “Priority = High” then color that card red, blue, green, etc.

This coloring could be for the card outline and card fill so that you can make two different properties into visual indicators rather than fields you have to read.

This is another solution to these long card views.

I agree, and it would appear that the kanban view uses the same cards as the cards view. I believe allowing kanban view to list items like in list view would also accomplish this
