When typing if I type a lowercase i by mistake and want to backspace to delete it, the I is capitalised (by MacOS I assume) and not deleted. Instead the cursor is placed before the now capital I and the character after the I is deleted (usually the gap in between where I am typing and the next paragraph)
I assumed it was to do with a text formatting plugin but I have tried with all my plugins off and the issue is still there. This doesn’t happen in any other applications apart from obsidian.

You typed a lowercase i here in the post. But I’m wondering, did you test backspacing in your web browser too? Especially a Chromium based browser, since Electron is Chromium, as I understand.
I don’t get this behaviour in MacOS. But I wonder if it’s a Mac setting somewhere. For example, if you go to the menubar in Obsidian, and Edit → Substitutions → Text Replacement, does unchecking this fix it?

I have just checked and it is happening elsewhere on chrome.
Unchecking that option does seem to fix it, so assume its a Mac issue as I’m now finding the behaviour in other places.

I don’t get it in Chrome either. Are you upgraded to the latest MacOS? I’m still on 14.4.1 Sonoma. Maybe I’ll encounter this when I upgrade.
I can’t find as many grammar settings in MacOS preferences anymore. I wonder if there are some hidden preferences you can change in Terminal.
Yeah, I’m on 15.4.1, so it could be that.
It’s doing it in the messages and WhatsApp app as well. Not sure how long its been a thing in other places, it’s not often I’m typing and editing paragraphs in other places.
Seems like a simple thing that people shouldn’t have to find a setting to avoid.
