Backlinks: Option to Hide Unlinked Mentions from Notes with Linked Mentions

Use case or problem

Often in documentation, a keyword will appear numerous times in the same context. It’s typical for the first mention of a keyword to include an internal link, but for subsequent mentions to be plain-text. This can create a lot of “false positives” in the “Unlinked Mentions” section of Backlinks.

Proposed solution

Create a configuration option for the Backlinks plugin to hide Unlinked Mentions from Notes with Linked Mentions. When checked, the Backlinks plugin can compare the Linked and Unlinked Mentions and skip any Unlinked Mentions that are from the same Notes containing Linked Mentions.

I would like to amend the request a little: provide the option to hide unlinked mentioned when there is a linked mention in close proximity (say 10 lines, or make that user definable too).

I second this loudly! It makes maintenance of unlinked mentions very tiresome by having to click through every unlinked mention, only to find that they are actually linked one paragraph above / below.

This would be an enormous improvement to the ergonomics of the unlinked mentions pane.

The entire pane needs some love, tbh; it’s tedious to use today (many instances of the same link, no way to exclude a file, scroll position not remembered). This suggestion both addresses one of those issues and, by lowering the number of suggestions there, make the remainder easier to work with.
