Automatically update folder/note references in settings when folder renamed

Use case or problem

Currently, if I rename a folder that is referenced in the setting (eg. my templates folder), I need to go into the settings and make sure to correctly set it to the new value again in all the places.

Proposed solution

It would be nice if Obsidian was able to do this for me, in a similar way to how it updates note links when renamed.

Current workaround (optional)

Manually clicking through all of the settings/plugin settings to see which ones use the folders I renamed, then manually re-setting them to the new folder name.

Indeed. A must have feature. Currently plugings break because of this feature missing. The more plugins you use, the riskier the change of a folder rename

:+1:. I’ve just renamed all my folders, and so like yourself my “folder” location settings are out of sync. Now have to manually go through them and update them. :flushed:

Surely this is not hard to implement? :man_shrugging:

I’ve been bitten by this a few times. It’s surprising because Obsidian generally tries to keep references working.

Adding my support to this issue - I’ve recently started using Obsidian and love its capabilities. As I organized my notes, I realized that I need to update some folder names, but that broke plugin references, which was a slight inconvenience (not a deal breaker, but wish it worked out of the box).
