My workaround now:
Use CodeScript Toolkit to automatically update all plugins and themes on Obsidian startup - Share & showcase - Obsidian Forum
Basically all it does is, every time Obsidian starts up, opens the settings to the “Community plugins” tab and clicks “Check for updates.” It waits for the loading bar to go away and then clicks the “Update all” button if it exists. It then does the same for the “Appearance” tab to update themes. It also works on mobile.
