Autocomplete for linking files shows uncreated files

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create two notes named Test and Elon Musk.
  2. Open Test and type “I met Elon today” and return.
  3. Go back to the line and change to [[Elon]] and click somewhere else or press keyboard arrow keys to go out of focus.
  4. Go back and change to [[Elo|Elon]]

Expected result

The autocomplete should show Elon Musk.

Actual result

The autocomplete shows shows Elon and Elon Musk. It look like two files exist.

Environment

  • Operating system: MacOS 13.0.1
  • Obsidian version: v1.1.9

Additional information

  1. If this was a design choice, we should be able to differentiate them like created and uncreated links in notes.
  2. Even if this was a design choice, if this is the only link to the uncreated file, it shouldn’t show up. If someone makes a typo (e.g. [[Elon Mosk]] and comes back to fix it, the typo shows up in the autocomplete.

Ok, I understand you. I do not consider this a bug but I agree that both

are improvements. I suggest you to open a FR for each of these.

Okay. You’re saying that listing uncreated files in the autocomplete was a design choice. That’s not my workflow so I don’t agree with the design choice but I respect you guys’ decision

yes, it is.
