I’m no coder (I’m older than the Internet itself), so I’m not sure if this is possible.
I’m having a hard time becoming interested in a Daily Notes habit and I’m guessing that it has something to do with staring at a blank page. Now, I know that I can build a note template in Templater, but even after a few days of seeing the same questions in the template, I get bored.
So, here’s my solution (if it’s possible):
How It Could Work Conceptually
- Template Trigger
- You have a note template (using Templater or core templates) that you call “Daily Journal,” “Project Brief,” etc.
- When you create a new note from that template, the custom plugin intercepts the creation event (or runs immediately after) and modifies the resulting note in some way.
- AI-Generated Questions
- The plugin calls an external AI API (e.g., OpenAI) to generate context/topic-specific questions.
- It embeds these AI-generated questions into the newly created note as headings (H1, H2, etc.).
- Final Output
- The user sees a new note that includes the static content from the template (whatever fields or prompts you already include) plus automatically generated questions that the user can answer.
I’m picturing in the plugin settings the user can input a list of topics that they are interested in for the LLM to draw inspiration from in the formation of new daily notes questions.
Every new daily note would have interesting conversation starter questions for me to journal on. Almost like daily notes meets fill-in-the-answer flashcard type questions.
I would always have something new to trigger my writing that I would be interested in and every day would be slightly different because of the Ai new question embeds.
Here are examples that would fit my settings input:
