The native MacOS translate feature doesn’t work on edit or preview mode on Obsidian’s desktop version. It works perfectly fine in iOS though.
The MacOS translate feature is very handy for translating any text from websites, PDF, documents and any text app throughout the platform. Surprisingly this feature doesn’t show up in the popup menu in Obsidian. There shouldn’t be the need to use a community pluggin for this.
Use case or problem
With MacOS’ native translate feature a user could easily select any portion of text within an Obsidian note, either in Preview or Edit mode and translate the text into another language. Sometimes we might have notes or portion of notes in multiple languages.
Proposed solution
It should work like it work everywhere else on MacOS. When selecting some portion of text, and control clicking on it, the popup menu should include the “Translate” option as it includes the “lookup” option.
Current workaround (optional)
Copying the text to another note taking app to translate it. Very inconvenient.
