Renaming of images is a bit of a pain.
Similar to how you change the name of a markdown document by changing the title on the page, introduce a tilte to the image when viewing it as stand alone and allow the user to change the file name through chancing the title of the image.

If you click or tap in the file name in the place where it is shown in the first image, it will already let you change it.

I guess making the UI for an image look the same as that of a page would just help with the user experience then.
