Just installed advanced tables plugin and it doesnt work.
I type "| Name "(Tab) and this happens
It doesn’t kick in before you have at least two columns, and have started on the separator line with a column divider.
It’s faster to trigger the command palette, and choose Insert table.

Actually it will kick in, to speak in holroys words… if you leave the blank between the column divider and your heading.
Try |Name and hitting TAB. The Advanced Table plugin will even add a blank by itself, so the result looks like this:
For other than your first column it doesn’t matter whether you have a blank between the column divider and the heading though.

I had the same issue initially. Just ensure you start with the separator line, and it should work fine
