The Maps view that ships with Bases draws your notes’ coordinates and lets Bases formulas colour the pins — but it only displays. I wrote Advanced Maps to add the rest to it, without replacing it: it registers no map view of its own and bundles no map renderer, so MapLibre, the backgrounds, the markers and the popups stay native.
It adds GPX/GeoJSON/KML/TCX tracks and areas linked from your notes (with elevation profiles and statistics you can sort a Base on), geotagged photos drawn at their EXIF location using their own embedded thumbnail, an “Around” map of a note’s links and backlinks, place search and reverse geocoding, coordinates out of a pasted map link or a photo, offline basemaps from a folder of tiles on disk, and GCJ-02/BD-09 alignment for mainland Chinese basemaps.
Needs Obsidian 1.13.1+, Bases, and the first-party Maps plugin. In Community plugins as Advanced Maps.
If you use Map View, keep using it — it is a full GIS with a query language, display rules and routing, and it works without Bases. This one is the opposite bet: make the built-in view better rather than ship a second map.
