Add Unlinked Mentions function in Bases

Use case or problem

Unlinked mentions show up in the “Backlinks” plugin (with context). Currently the Bases “links” function feature only supports “Linked Mentions”.

The use case can vary but an example use case is with authors or aliases. Often an author can be mentioned merely by their last name, which can be added as an alias. I use this feature to discover places throughout my vault that I have quoted an author. Sometimes these quotes later become extractions for a “Quote” note and become a “Linked Mention”.

I suppose this could be used for many different purposes, for example if you reference “Javascript” in a note, but “Unlinked Mentions” allows it to be discovered.

Adding this to “Bases” would allow more notes to be surfaced in the above “Author” example. A table could be created by the user “Referenced In” and then show all the notes where that author is (potentially) mentioned.

Proposed solution

Add a function for “Unlinked Mentions”

Current workaround (optional)

This only works with the backlink plugin and not in Bases so you have to access this via the “Backlink” feature in the sidebar

My use case is I am creating a note called Orphaned Attachments: It currently filters attachments that have no backlinks, but needs to add filter by file.unlinkedMentions.isEmpty().
