Add Folder Search Capability to Obsidian's Search Functionality

Use case or problem

Obsidian’s search functionality is excellent for finding specific files and their content, even when using partial or pattern-based searches. It also conveniently displays the folder path for each file in the search results. However, there is currently no way to search for folder names directly.

For users with large or complex folder structures in their vaults, this can be a limitation. Navigating to a specific folder, especially in deeply nested or similarly named folder structures, can be time-consuming as it requires manual browsing through the file explorer.

Proposed solution

I propose adding the ability to search for folder names directly within Obsidian’s existing search functionality. This feature would allow users to enter partial or complete folder names in the search bar, returning matching folders similar to how files are currently displayed. Including the full folder path in the search results would help users quickly identify the correct folder.

An additional enhancement could be the option to filter search results to show only folders, only files, or both, depending on the user’s needs. This would streamline navigation within the vault, making it easier to manage and organize notes in large and complex vaults.

Current workaround (optional)

Currently, users must manually navigate through the file explorer to locate specific folders, which can be cumbersome in large vaults with deep or complex folder structures.

This is already possible.
