we don’t control the spellcheck. It’s either the one bundled in electron. Or, on mac and windows it can use the one that is installed in the OS.
Well I couldn’t get it to work, so I did some digging. Apparently it’s an upstream issue with Electron and Hunspell dictionary files.
First of all I did everything I could in Windows to make Finnish appear. Changed the interface language to Finnish, made sure Finnish language pack is installed, and even installed Finnish proofing in the Office. The end result is that Obsidian now auto selects Finnish as the proofing language BUT, it doesn’t work at all, it doesn’t underline any typos or anything.
Btw, if I pair it with any other language in the list, parentheses appear after Finnish saying (Not available). In fact the dropdown menu is full of proofing languages that do work even without me having to install them in Windows. Finnish does not appear.
So, digging deeper, it seems that Finnish is just not supported at all by Electron/Hunspell dictionary, and there’s nothing I can do. I wonder how Estonian, which is a cousin language, is supported but Finnish isn’t. Sad.
PS. there’s a thread in the bug graveyard that is related to this issue. Still an issue, I just reproduced it. ID 32440 (would link it but I’m not allowed).
