Add External Link should interpret existing selection as link display text

Often I write a sentence in a note, and then decide that part of it should be a link to something.

I want to select the desired display text, right click, Add External Link, and then paste a URL from the clipboard and end up with [display text](clipboard URL).

Instead, I end up with [shown text](Title of Page), which I then have to clean up.

If I have an existing text selection when trying to Add External URL, can it be interpreted as the desired display text for the link-to-be-created?

This is solely to do with your browser. There’s a setting in your browser somewhere to copy the title rather than just the plain URL.

I can confirm that my Obsidian behaves exactly as you want. You just need to adjust your browser’s copy function.

Sounds like you want the Paste URL into Selection plugin. It works well.
