Add/Change Obsidian Sync plans

Use case or problem

Currently, Obsidian Sync offers Standard (1 vault, 1 GB) and Plus (10 vaults, 10–100 GB) plans. For users like me, who have more than one active vault but don’t need 10 vaults or large storage capacity, the jump from Standard to Plus feels excessive in both features and cost.

Many users maintain separate vaults for different areas of life, such as personal, work, and hobby projects, but don’t need huge storage space or 10 vault slots. The current plan structure forces these users to either merge unrelated content into a single vault (which can make organisation and search less effective) or pay for far more vaults and storage than they require.

Proposed solution

Introduce at least one mid-tier plan between Standard and Plus, such as:

  • Vaultaholic Starter Pack: 3 vaults, 1–3 GB total storage
  • The Goldilocks Plan: 5 vaults, each with 3 GB, and up to 10 GB total storage

You can name them after me, I’m just trying to be modest

This would give small-scale multi-vault users an affordable way to sync separate vaults without overpaying for features they don’t need. The pricing could scale proportionally between Standard and Plus, making it accessible to a wider range of users while still fitting into the existing pricing structure.

Current workaround (optional)

  • Merging multiple unrelated vaults into one and using folders/tags to simulate separation (less ideal for organisation and permissions).
  • Using third-party syncing solutions (Dropbox, Git, iCloud, etc.) for additional vaults, which removes the benefits of Obsidian Sync (version history, end-to-end encryption, conflict handling).

I just got a reminder to renew my plan, so this “frustration” flowed on the surface

I feel the same way! The fact that I know I will need more than 10GB (which isn’t the problem), but that I would have to pay $200 /yr for that much space is absolutely wild to me. I want to support Obsidian directly, and I know that Obsidian Sync is a lot more effective than other sources for speed and accuracy for changes made… but I feel like I would be willing to put up with the delay in services if the price difference is that drastic.

PLEASE make there more options for individuals that want fewer vaults but more space. I see the value when looking at the total for the 10 vaults, but that is absolutely overkill for what the layman may and will need.

I’m thinking along the same lines:

  • Increase the number of vaults from 1 to 3 for tier 1, if that’s fair to Obsidian.

  • Start with the 1st tier at $4, and then add on a dollar for each additional vault (or whatever’s fair) up to a certain number of vaults.

  • Create a middle tier with a fixed cost and number of vaults between the current tier 1 and 2.

I love Obsidian and certainly want it to keep existing. I’ve got a Catalyst license, and I payed for Publish for a few years without using it to support Obsidian, but when I see I need to pay $8 a month for 2 or 3 tiny vaults, I go, What? I’m paying for tier 1 ATM, and have my other two vaults synced by iCloud, which isn’t ideal.

Just my two cents

I fully agree!! My issue is that, while I only really use one vault (certainly, I only have one that would need to be synced,) but it’s already over 1GB. The fact that the only options are 1 vault 1GB and 10 vaults 50 or 100GB is CRAZY. How do we not have anything between 1GB and 50GB?? I’d be good with 2 or 3, lol, so I’d happily pay just a couple dollars for the extra storage space, but right now I’m paying almost $100/year for 9 vaults and 48GB of space I’m not using.
