Use case or problem
I started using Obsidian recently and really enjoy using it so i come to the decision to notify Obsidian devs about Accrescent as an alternative app store for users privacy and security to get and use Obtainium in the future.
Proposed solution
I hope you guys can take a look at Accrescent and see if it a good option for future support consideration? As they have various benefits for both users and developers:
- They have better approach to devs source code modeling and libraries usage unlike those forceful apps policy that F-Droid have about source code model.
- Obsidian signing keys will be in charge by their own respective devs than insecure solution like Remote Signing or Play Signing.
- It provide a more private and secure way to get Obsidian, which will benefits Obsidian users a lot in the future.
- And much more (there are also a lot of [planned features waiting it ahead for both devs and users).
About Accrescent app quality control policy, the only thing Obsidian need to change to fit their users security protection policy is switching from using MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE to fully using Android Storage Access Framework(which Obsidian is already using it with ease, imho manage external storage request doesn’t serve any purpose at all on Obsidian so im not sure why it was used in the first place).
Note
That being said, Accrescent are still in Alpha stage of development to improve users and developers experience and isn’t open for developer to freely submiting their apps yet. But Accrescent is gaining popularity really fast and many apps devs, both FOSS and non-FOSS are already/considered supporting their apps on Accreacent.
