Accept donations/support via Obsidian account credit

I would like to be able to accept $$ support for my plugin by offering the option to donate Obsidian account credit, instead of donations via Paypal, Kofi, BuyMeACoffee, Patreon etc.

I want to do it this way as I don’t need/want cash, nor do I want to go through setting up an account on one of those platforms and then dealing with the taxes in my country (Australia).

Accepting donations as account credit would also directly support Obsidian development.

I think the only way to do this currently would be providing a step by step guide in my plugin README on how to purchase Obsidian credit as a gift, and then asking for it to be sent to me as a a DM on the Obsidian forum. This would be a bit tedious for users.

My request/suggestion: Could the Obsidian team please consider implementing a unique ‘1-click’ donation link for Obsidian accounts that could provide a seamless experience for donating account credit to someone?

Then this link could be added as a fundingUrl in the manifest and on the GitHub repo.

I think you can simply give your users one of your emails to receive the credits.

You cannot use the forum DMs to facilitate this type of transactions. Sorry.

Side note: Obsidian Credits are often used by scammers who purchase them with stolen credit cards and then attempt to resell them.
I am not sure we wanna add more pressure to the Obsidian credit system.

Oh dear - those are really good points I didn’t consider. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

I’ll continue my search for alternatives.
