A few things to make Maps better

I’m using UMap to manage places, and recently tried bases+the official map plugin. Really impressive and I love how flexible it is.

There are a few bigger things missing that would make Maps much better for me:

  • Ability to move places with the mouse and auto-update coordinates
  • Assigning Filters on the map, to make markers with certain properties less or more important (like layers on most map apps)
    For ex. make their markers smaller, show up on specified zoom levels.
  • Related to the previous, more customization for makers.
    • Like different fill/outline/icon color options (One use case could be to visually separate places you’ve decided about or not yet, when planning a trip.
  • Draw and import traces, lines and polygons. If those were linked to notes too, that’d be great.
  • A basemap switcher without the need to create a separate view.

Altho Maps is made by Obsidian’s team, it is a community plugin, so feature requests go to its GitHub (linked near the top of the plugin’s description). I’d also recommend posting a separate request for each feature, to make them easier to track and discuss. Thanks for posting!
