A certain font is not rendered properly

Steps to reproduce

1. Download Homura Mincho https://fontgraphic.jp/download/fg-homura/
2. Try to set it as either interface font or text font (or both).
3. It doesn’t get rendered properly at all.

Additional information

I’ve practically tried everything but to no avail. For example:

• turning the pc off and on again
• converting the original OTF font to other formats(like ttf)
• trying to render it in an unofficial way (e.g. using obsidian-custom-font plugin)
• changing Obsidian’s language

Honestly, I have no idea why this specific font fails to be rendered. I once suspected that the font file itself was somehow broken, but then it turned out every other app renders it correctly with ease.
I also encountered a bug that when Homura Mincho is used, Obsidian fails to recognize font’s priority order and uses the “failed Homura” font altogether.

See, even though Cascadia Mono is set as the first available font to be used, the interface font is not being Cascadia Mono.
Once I delete 01HomuraM from the interface font list, it starts to render Cascadia Mono correctly.

The link in the first post was a 404, but I grabbed the fonts from here: https://fontmeme.com/fonts/homura-mincho-font/. I think they are the same ones.

Ignoring the suggestions and typing the font name exactly into Obsidian looks to work. 04HomuraM Medium in this pic for the text font:

A CSS snipet works as well. e.g.

As to why? Not sure. Maybe the correct fields weren’t set in whatever software created the font? You may be able to see some more info looking at the font in Font Forge or something like that.

UPDATE:

The above was tested on Windows 11. On macOS using the same font, I couldn’t get Obsidian’s UI to take any variation of the font name, but 04HomuraM-Medium(with the hyphen) works in CSS

Based on the strange naming 01, 02, etc., and the difficulty getting the fonts working easily, I’m leaning towards these being poorly made font files and not an Obsidian issue.

I try out a lot of fonts on Windows and macOS and rarely run into problems like the ones I’ve encountered with these fonts.
