I’m an application developer specializing, for now, in web applications and APIs. But I also handle many other aspects of the development from infrastructure procurement, vendor management and operational support. It’s a lot to manage and I can only retain a few things in my head at one time. That’s why taking notes and being able to recall them is very important to me.
I’ve been using Evernote since 2011 and have been mostly happy with it. But Obsidian addresses some drawbacks that I don’t see Evernote fulfilling in the near future.
Favorite Obsidian Features
- Full markdown support
- Vim Editor integration (this one really blew me away)
- Saves files in non-proprietary format.
The big thing missing for me, for now, is synchronization across devices. I use that heavily across work and home machines with Evernote.
