Physician/informatician/author, been using Markdown for my notes almost 16 yrs. Started in 2008 with Notational Velocity > nvAlt (2010) > nvUltra (2021).
Now trying out loving Obsidian (on Mac).

Current challenge is revising my 5000 notes so I can use them in both nvUltra and Obsidian.
- Removing
#
and##
from filenames (which I used for MOC and super-MOC notes). Swapping these out forq-
andqq-
, soq-2022.md
instead of#2022.md
– because[[#2022]]
does not work in Obs. I used Finder to do that.
- 20230826: This was completed a while ago.
- Revising all
[[wikilinks]]
accordingly. If I can’t do this using a find/replace across all files in a folder (Atom? Hazel?), then I’ll have to write a python script to do it.
- 20230826: also completed. Find/replace did the trick.

Still loving it. Started paying for Publish option in June, just to see how it works. Big tip: use the publish
field in YAML.
- up to 6300 notes now – I’ve started publishing some of these weekly using a weekly note – Sunday Morning Coffee Notes – where I use Random Note core plugin to select 3 random notes to publish.
- Which notes to publish? This project has brought to the surface the concept of having to redact private information before publishing, which leads to what is private or not. Looking for a plugin that redacts marked text so that it is displayed for me in the Obsidian app but is redacted on the
publish.obsidian.md
public site. - List Modified: using Francis Kafieh’s excellent community plug-in that I use to add a Modified Today section to my Daily note, which automatically creates a hyperlinked list of all .md files that I modified today. This helps me visually track my productivity and I can go to that note and see when I worked on that file (via the backlinks to the Daily notes).
- I have accelerated my Memex Bell Project (digitizing much of my paper), and have scanned and recycled 3 boxes of articles and notes over the past 2 months. I have 15 boxes in queue, and estimate these will be completed by 2024Q2. On days where I have scanned documents to PDFs, the names of these files are added to the Daily note. About 250 PDF file per week is where I am. I will probably write up my workflow when/if I get around to it.
