Not really a perfect workaround, but for me it’s adequate: Using the plugin Novel word count. It offers all the features of excluding comments and link-text, showing the number of words used next to the file/folder. It is highly customizable, so it shows me also the number of notes inside a folder, and much more. Maybe an alternative for somebody else…

I, too, use that plugin. My vault is on the larger size with ~3.8k files. I have all these options disabled due to performance concerns:

Have you noticed any performance hiccups with these settings ON?

For me no problems with the performance at all, but there are only 1320 files in my vault so far…
