Why need syncing if files already stored in cloud?

Hi everyone,

Im a newbie with Obsidian. Im confused with syncing with OneDrive, could someone help me explain this?

What I’m trying to do

Syncing files across laptop and other devices

Things I have tried

I created a vault/folder in my OneDrive by using a laptop. When I close Obsidian, those files in my vault are synced (by OneDrive’s feature), then I open Obsidian on other laptop, choose the mentioned vault in OneDrive and I have all the Obsidian contend I created on the first laptop.

So the question Im confused is that if OneDrive can sync files like I describe, then why we need other plugin (like Remotely Save) for syncing?

Thanks for your time to read my question!

In desktop ↔ desktop syncing situations, there are many options.

In desktop ↔ mobile situations with different OSes involved, it complicates things.

As you have already set things up with onedrive, you simply do not need to use any other plugins.

The plugins like the one you mentioned are for different use cases. If onedrive works for you, then that’s all you need. If you do have any nitpicks like not being able to sync with certain devices, etc. then you might need to look into different services or plugins.

Thank you very much, ur reply really makes sense!

That makes sense! Ty! ^^
