Why does Obsidian start a new update despite 'automatic update' being checked off.+ core and cummunity problems (Windows 11 desktop)

In the last version (1.8.4. windows desktop) I have file property problems (have already posted a question on the forum) and I don’t have those in version 1.7.7. so I want to go there again but that update keeps getting unsolicited.
Now I have Current version: v1.8.4 Installer version: v1.7.7
Actually I want to go back to 'current version 1.7.7 because there the file properties do work.
So how can I prevent that update if the ‘automatic update’ is checked off? And how can I get the stable 1.7.7 version back on?

Plugins not working properly in v1.8.4

  • number headings
  • recent files
  • editing menu bar → icons not responsive
  • floating tocs

What I’m trying to do

Like te run a stable windows desktop version. While v1.8.4 is giving problems with core and community plugins.

Things I have tried

  • uninstalled the plugins (number headings, recent files, editing menu bar, floating tocs)
  • reboot PC (Windows 11)
  • Reinstalled the plugins
  • used 2 more different themes
  • Uninstalled Obsidian.mb (4 times now) (Windows uninstall and Geek untinstaller)
  • reboot pc
  • Reinstalled version 1.7.7. (also 4 times)
  • deleted c:\users\username\AppData\Local\obsidian-updater

Remove the %appdata%/obsidian/obsidian-xx.xx.xx.asar file(s), restart, and Obsidian will load to whatever installer version you have installed.

@ariehen
I have 2 *.asar files

  1. C:\Users\userName\AppData\Roaming\obsidian\obsidian-1.8.4.asar
  2. C:\Users\userName\AppData\Local\Programs\Obsidian\resources\obsidian.asar

Do I delete both?

I’m not around a windows device to check at the moment, but I’d remove the obsidian-1.8.4.asar to start and see how it goes.

@ariehen
Thanks, I let you know.

@ariehen
This appears to be OK. Already shut down and restarted a few times and the update is no longer running as I wanted. Thanks for the tip! But I’m still wondering why the properties don’t work in v1.8.4 and why the community plugins don’t work. I can’t find anything about it in the forum. So far all previous updates went without any problems.
