Why does my content disappear?

There doesn’t appear to be a troubleshooting guide for this issue.
I can’t reproduce on purpose. It just happens.

I type or paste content into Obsidian.

In 48-72 hours random notes are gone. But the title of the note remains.

I am a new user. Years ago I was an Evernote user. But they wrecked the software. I just discovered Obsidian.

But if I can’t trust it to hold my notes I can’t use it.

It took me time to create the notes and to create the backlinks. Which are now gone.

Additional information

Hello.

Where is the data stored? On a cloud service?

Can you paste the diagnostic data from: Help > Show Debug Info – it will help others to understand your installation.

+1 that this is most likely a cloud sync issue, if you have your vault stored in iCloud, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.

Or if you have Obsidian Sync and mix it with another sync tool, that can also cause problems.

If you do have it stored in a cloud tool, make sure that the settings of that tool are set to always keep the files on your device. If it makes the files cloud-only, Obsidian can’t see them. For OneDrive, this is a right-click “Always Keep On This Device” option. On Mac/iCloud this is in the iCloud settings for “Optimize Mac Storage”.

I’ve moved this to Help for now, because bug reports need to include that “Show debug info” or other information that helps them reproduce the issue. (Still happy to try to help!)
