The group that reviews open source software in my company is looking for the official name of the free use license. Is it simply “Obsidian Free Use”? I’ve sent them to obsidian.md/license but they keep asking me for the formal license name. Thanks!
In case they weren’t already aware, Obsidian is not open source. Perhaps they are thinking it follows a boiler-plate open source license? I’m not on the dev team, but I assume it does not.
If they have further questions, they should likely email [email protected]
.
Got it, thanks. Is it true that the “free use” license allows someone to use Obsidian for non—commercial purposes in a commercial entity? Or am I misinterpreting that announcement a few months back?
Yes, you should be fine. The excerpt from very close to the top of the license:
Obsidian is free for all purposes, including personal, commercial, and non-profit use.
Free use
You can download and use Obsidian for free, forever, for any purpose including:
- Personal use
- Commercial use
- Non-profit and charitable organizations
- Educational institutions
- Government departments and agencies
Thanks!!!
