What is the fastest way to extract select text from an image on macOS?

What I’m trying to do

For my inventory notes with document things I own, I include pictures of the object include the all sides and even the box if it has useful information.

Later I extract details such as model , part number, and serial number from the images to put into the note.

I take pictures with my iPhone, and then move the images from Apple Photos into Obsidian. I have noticed that Apple apps like Apple Photos and Finder and Preview, that I can select and copy text.

I cannot do that from inside of Obsidian, however!

Things I have tried

I did find a work around of:

right-clicking the image 
selecting "show in Finder"
accessing the text from Finder quick preview.

That works but it adds a number of steps and takes me out of Obsidian. I’d rather stay inside of Obsidian, if possible.

Is there a faster alternative that lets’ me stay inside of Obsidian?

Third option is Raycast and ScreenOCR addon (or any OCR addon). Raycast is probably the best option since it offers so many useful productivity features like Emoji & Symbols, Snippets and Clipboard History. ScreenOCR probably uses the same OCR api that you would get with Apple Shortcuts.

This doesn’t keep it in Obsidian, but you can shorten your existing process process slightly:

  1. Right click image
  2. Choose “Share”
  3. Choose “Quick Look”
