What is an effective way to compile canvas files into bases?

Bases have been an amazing tool to categorize files without actually needing to do so manually. However, it runs into issues when trying to incorporate Canvas files. Because Canvas doesn’t have any visible and vanilla way to edit properties into them, they seem like they can’t be well integrated into the greater workflow that the ObsidianMD team has lined up.

In this case, I want to ask for advice on how to be able to include Canvas files into bases.

You could try to rely only on their file dates and names, or you could make companion notes for them, to hold properties for them.

I was thinking of the same thing regarding names. However, I started getting frustrated over the redundancies. I have an entire projects separated by subject, as I’m a university student, and having all of these include the subject title feels off in my mind. Additionally, these bases have deadlines and such as the columns.

I could try to the companion notes solution, though it feels laborious. So I want to ask if you know of a way to streamline this process. Thanks!

Also, I think the Advanced Canvas plugin lets you assign properties to canvas files. You may be able to work that into a Bases workflow.

I was thinking about that too, but after trying to be more conscious about what plugins I use, I realized that I don’t want to be more reliant on plugins like those.
