Update time on edit creating multiple frontmatter blocks

I am running the ‘Update time on edit’ plugin and it is creating the frontmatter block at the top of the file over and over instead of just updating the original values. In some of my files, I can find this block repeating as many as 10 times. I clean them up and leave only a single block in place, but then a few days later I find the file in the same condition.

I tried extending the 'minimum number of minutes between updates", but this did not seem to fix the problem.

Does anyone have a suggestion?
