Unable to Update, Error

What I’m trying to do

Everything seems to be going wrong with my vault. I’m unable to click on any update buttons and when clicking on the update icon in the footer bar I get this message.

Also, I have missing files that seem to be deleted.

Another example of a system-wide problem is the Recent Files plugin is installed and turned on but the feature is not working and when clicking on the icon in the left bar, a message states the plugin is unavailable.

Everything seems to be going wrong and I don’t know what to do. I’m ready to bail on the whole thing.

Things I have tried

  • I have checked my internet connection and it is working fine.
  • I tried refreshing the vault
  • I rebooted my computer (iMac)
  • I tried turning off all plugins and turning back on

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Sorry to hear about the issues.

First off before other troubleshooting: where is your vault on disk? e.g.

/Users/YOU/Documents/VAULT1/

Is it in iCloud Drive? e.g. iCloudDrive/Obsidian/VAULT1/

If iCloud Drive is involved, I’d make sure you have Optimize Mac Storage OFF in iCloud’s settings.

Thanks for the help.

I have the vault in a non-icloud connected folder.

I do have Obsidian Sync running.

Folder path is: Documents No iCloud/Obsidian Notes/My Vault

OK, that’s good. By chance, is this Desktop & Documents Folders setting enabled also in iCloud Drive’s settings)?

Sorry for my ignorance. How do I get to that screen?

Found it. Yes, they are both turned on.

I’m not sure about the network issues, but you mentioned missing files in your first post. One possible cause of that is competing sync services and/or iCloud Drive randomly removing things when it feels like it.

As your vault isn’t in iCloud Drive proper, that’s probably not the case here, but I was just concerned with that Desktop & Documents Folders sync being turned on. Some people have no issues with it, but some do.

Okay, thanks.
I suspected that and wondered even if something happened with Obsidian Sync. I had issues with that when I first set it up. It took me a minute to get it working correctly.

Appreciate the input.

Additional info:

  • Cannot load community plugins

Can you access github.com from your browser?

Does it work in phone via wifi?
Does it work in your via cell data?

Are you using a VPN?

Not using a VPN

Yes, I’m logged into Github, no problem.

I’m on an iMac desktop.

On my cell phone, it seems to be working normally. I can access community plugins, etc

Wondering if I should just uninstall, reinstall and start over?

Can you browse community plugins?

No, I can access the community plugins area, but the error message is “Failed to load community plugins.”

I am not sure I understand. Anyway, the error in your screeshot in your first plugin comes from a plugin not from Obsidian.
