What I’m trying to do
My obsidian file changed the content to become the same as another file. I am trying to retrieve it. The previous content had several files liked and the new one doesn’t, however the links remain
Things I have tried
I tried to go to file history, but obsidian says “unable to retrieve file history”. I went to my iCloud Drive to check the file, but I am unable to see previous file changes.
You could try:
if you haven’t yet. (I wasn’t sure what you meant by “file history”.)

I also don’t know what you mean by “file history”.
- File Recovery calls it snapshots.
- Obsidian Sync says “Show sync history” or “Open version history”. Is there a chance you typed that from memory, or translated from a different language?
I’m worried you might be using both Obsidian Sync plus iCloud, which you should not do. Avoid mixing cloud sync tools. But you are using a phrase I don’t recognize, so I can’t tell either.
Sorry, I typed by memory!
I opened the snapshots under the file recovery and there’s nothing there!
I am only using iCloud, not the obsidian sync.
And just to double-check, you searched for the file name, in snapshots? By default nothing is shown until you search.
If that is also blank (ouch, sorry to hear), then it’s possible your only hope would be if iCloud had history (you might have to check in the web version?) or if you kept backups. Or if you had another syncing device that has a copy.
And if you don’t keep backups, now is a great time to start! (And remember that sync tools are not the same as full proper backups.)

yes I did…
Thank you for the help! I guess I’ll be more careful with my backups
