Turn off (or customize) double tap to switch to editing view

Chiming in. Every time I scroll very quickly, I end up triggering this undesired behavior.

It’s annoying when I scroll long notes. I want an option to:

  • Disable this behavior, or;

  • Change tap interval to shorter one.

    Currently it looks like 500 ms or something like that? I would double-tap more quickly if I really wanted to activate editing mode.

seven months passed and the sensitivity of the dpuble tab is even worse now.

I would also like to disable this option. It is the first Obsidian feature that’s made me seriously consider switching platform if it can’t be turned off, as it totally breaks mobile for me - I constantly switch to edit mode by accident just by navigating around my vaults.

Is this only an iPhone issue? I can’t replicate on Android. Double or single tap doesn’t change from reading mode to edit/live preview. Tap-hold inconsistently selects single words.

Weird. I’m tapping away furiously on text in Reading Mode and it never changes to Live Preview edit. Which is odd given all those here with the problem. Unless I’m not understanding the issue? I’ve never had it change to edit just scrolling around in reading mode. Maybe one of my plugins is inadvertently blocking intended function in a good way…

I strongly agree with this request.

​The “double-tap to edit” feature makes it almost impossible to maintain Reading Mode while quickly scrolling through notes on smartphones and tablets.

​Viewing notes in Edit Mode on mobile feels inherently unstable; simply touching the screen to scroll often moves the cursor unintentionally and triggers the keyboard.

​Furthermore, we frequently hold and scroll on our smartphones with just one hand. For a comfortable and reliable reading experience, we need to be free from these accidental mode switches.

​I would greatly appreciate it if the team could either remove this feature or provide an On/Off toggle in the settings.

The latest version may make the feature less annoying:

Android: Fixed bug causing editor to accidentally switch from reading mode to edit mode while scrolling. (Obsidian 1.13.8 Mobile (Public) - Obsidian)

I’m on iOS and never had a problem but I figured it was just because people move their hands differently. Now I have trouble making it switch consistently.

This does not solve it for me. It seems to happen less frequently but still happens. I don’t understand the problem with providing a checkbox
