Steps to reproduce

In Obsidian 1.0, in a new note, type:

\begin{aligned}
[x] y
\end{aligned}
$$

The problem persists in other envirionments also, is not specific to aligned.

this is correct. Check it latex. you’ll get the error. It doesn’t work in mathjax either

typora ?!? are you using the wrong program?

hmm ok. Curious behaviour. Checking a bit around, I suppose you are right. You can close the problem. Thanks for looking swiftly into it.

Ok with closing, just a self-correction that in “environment” I meant obsdian v1.0. The typora mention was a obviously wrong.
