CRMs and social media plugins, for one. I know of other users who already use @ to designate people in their notes. (Not I. I use ꆜ, heh.)
My vote would be to try to avoid the prefix character… I also think an equivalent syntax with dataview makes sense, as then you can use the task metadata in dataview as well!
