I have recently returned to Obsidian after a period of quiescence. I am clueless about bases. I only became aware of it when the contents of my vault somehow got displayed as a table. I have no idea how to use bases and at the moment am not interested in learning how to do so.
It seemed for a while that I could switch between the bases table view and file explorer view by tapping on the image at the top of the ribbon on the left. Currently doing that just creates a new base. (At the moment I have 17 “Untitled” bases. ) The only way I can get the file explorer is by using the “show file explorer” command.
I would really like to disable the bases table view altogether, to postpone learning about bases for later. I just want the file explorer. Help appreciated.
Things I have tried
I searched for help with this here and in the help doc. I got nothing.
Go to Settings > Core plugins > Bases and toggle to disable it.
Sounds like the button you’ve been pressing, that you thought would switch to the explorer, is the “Create new base” button. Which would explain why you keep getting a new base.
If you change your mind about disabling Bases but still want to get rid of the button, you can right-click the ribbon and deselect the Create new base button to remove it.
Thank you much, dawni. Yes, somehow my ribbon lost the folder icon. So every time I tapped/clicked on it I created a new base. As I said I ended up with many.
I am stuck on adding an icon for the show file explorer command. When I go to settings / appearance / ribbon menu configuration I have only two icons available other than the ones I am using. The folder icon is not one of them.
Is there a way to add icons to the ribbon configuration menu?
