Setting to link drag & dropped attachments instead of embedding them

Use case or problem

When I embed (drag & drop) a file, say a PDF, into a note it then has a viewer that is embedded into my note in the middle of my list. In this case, a list of links (or internal links to files on disk) of various documentation. This interrupts the viewing of all of the links.

When I remove the ! to change it to a regular link, then I can click on it to have it open as it’s own tab in internal viewer (or right click and open in external app if I want).

Proposed solution

Add a setting to, by default, not create the links as internal (denoted by !) for embedded files when drag & drop

Current workaround (optional)

Having to manually remove the !

Ideally the setting would have toggles for file types. I imagine most people who don’t want PDFs embedded still want images to be.

Good point, makes a lot of sense to have one generic setting, and then also allow by file type (or perhaps extension). Would also allow for the plugins that add extension types, so those could be added/listed as well, if someone wanted to override settings.

Changed title for clarity (was “Setting to not use internal link (e.g. embed with preview) by default”).
