I saw a note asking about senior discounts, and they were referred to make a feature request here, however, I do not see that was ever done. I decided to take up the gauntlet because I think it’s just the right thing to do, and it’s been sort of my quest given friends, family, and peers that are increasingly in this demographic.
I suspect you would like more of a justification that my position on it, so…
In the ever increasing services for subscription and having friends/family/peers who are approaching retirement and fixed incomes, the notion of senior citizen discounts seem more important to consider.
From financial reasoning, student discounts are often largely given because they will likely grow your subscriber base. While non-profit and military discounts may be seen as coming from moral reasoning, they may grow your subscriber base as well, so can fall under the financial reasoning.
I would guess most see senior citizen discounts as purely coming from moral reasoning because they are most likely seen as a shrinking subscriber base. However, not giving senior discounts may accelerate that shrinking because they are making financial decisions based on fixed income and need. Overall, even if it’s moral reasoning for it, how large is that demographic and how much would it really negatively impact your bottom line (and it may positively impact it).
Whether you do or don’t, I thought it was worth asking…
